Morbius seemingly takes place in both the MCU and Sony’s Spider-Verse at the same time, but that’s impossible after the events of No Way Home. Between Keaton and the Spider-Man alley art, it makes much more sense for Morbius to be set in the MCU and assume those cops are talking about something entirely different than Venom. But Morbius is very much a Sony movie, and touted as being part of Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, which means Keaton is either a new character or playing the SSU’s incarnation of the Vulture as well. It also means that Spider-Man definitely exists somewhere in the SSU, and was also branded a murderer for some reason.
The trailer starts with dialogue from Spider-Man: No Way Home. Wong telling Strange not to cast the spell. Strange telling Peter Parker how little they know about the multiverse. Spider-Man: No Way Home brought back iconic Spider-Man characters from past movies, but future MCU adventures are starting to delve into less well-known characters.
There isn’t a whole lot known about Blade at this point, and the trailers for Morbius have made it confusing to tell what Spider-Man universe the film takes place in. The first trailer saw the return of Michael Keaton’s Vulture from the MCU and also showed graffiti of Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man. The second trailer then briefly showed the Oscorp tower from Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man movies while directly referencing Spider-Man: No Way Home Venom. Sony had kept their Spider-Man villain movies separate from the MCU up until recently, so it’s possible that Morbius could take place within the MCU.It’s been almost a year since multiple women accused Hammer of emotional abuse, manipulation and coercion; in April, a woman who gave her name only as Effie accused Hammer of rape. Hammer denied the allegations but was dropped by his agents at William Morris and withdrew from a number of movie and TV projects, including the Jennifer Lopez movie Shotgun Wedding and the Godfather series at Paramount+.
